Regional Coordinator for Africa and the Caribbean

Ms. Riggio oversees the managerial, administrative, and technical management for Perkins’ work in Africa and the Caribbean regions. Prior to her current role, Ms. Riggio served as an Educational Consultant for Perkins International. In this position, she coordinated the development of educational publications and media, as well as coordinating the curriculum of the Educational Leadership Program and other international training activities offered on the Perkins campus.

Ms. Riggio became the National Preschool consultant in 1990 and from 1995-2005 she was the Regional Coordinator for Asia and a consultant for deafblind services in East Africa. Over the years, Ms. Riggio has traveled to Israel, Ukraine, Jordan, Portugal, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, South Africa, Korea, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Haiti to provide technical assistance to local partners.

Ms. Riggio is well known worldwide as an expert in the field of deafblindness. She is the co-author or editor of over 15 publications focusing on the education of children with deafblindness and a frequent presenter in the field. Her publications are used internationally as the basis for trainings targeted towards teachers, administrators, and parents.

Before she joined the Perkins International team, Ms. Riggio was the Project Director for the National Deafblind Training Project, which developed training institutes in deafblindess for teachers and parents. Ms. Riggio received a Masters degree in Multi-handicapped and Deafblind Education and a Bachelors degree in Special and Elementary Education from Boston College.
